Tämä on avannut huijareille tilaisuuden. Jo Verkkokaupan käsikirjassa varoittelin tämän tyyppisistä huijauksista. Sama kaava on saanut uusia muotoja.

Huijausyritys näyttää ensisilmäyksellä erittäin uskottavalta, koska se on lähetetty oikealle vastaanottajalle ja kaikki nimet ja yhteystiedot ovat oikein. Nämä ovat kuitenkin tietoja, jotka ovat kenen tahansa saatavilla, vieläpä automaattisesti haettavissa, joten niiden tietäminen ei todellisuudessa osoita kyseessä olevan viranomaisen.

Muutenkin kirje on huolella laadittu, niin että tarjousta ei voi ainakaan ihan selvästi osoittaa laittomaksi, vaikka ilmiselvä tarkoitus on pelotella koko domainin vanhentumisella ja erehdyttää ihmiset maksamaan domainin uusimista.
